On March 12th, 2026, ADIMS hosted a well-attended community fundraising event in support of the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council’s legal challenge to DFO’s management of the herring fishery.

We presented five short films to show herring natural history and their key role in the marine food web, as well as their important place in the traditions and diets of local First Nations.

Dorrie Woodward, our Chair, followed this with a talk on the precarious state of the herring stock in the Strait of Georgia and gave a more detailed explanation of how the DFO herring management regime led to overfishing and stock collapses on the BC Coast.  There was a lively discussion afterwards with plenty of questions, and we raised approximately $350 cash, with additional donations made online via the Herring Conservation and Restoration Society website: www.savetheherring.org
